F3 Glued rod imbed

We are excited to share that F3 Timber Technologies has been granted a U.S. patent (US12117035) for our innovative Glued Rod Imbed (GRI) technology! This marks a significant step forward in advancing engineered timber construction, offering enhanced performance, reliability, and efficiency for glued-in-rod applications.

Why the GRI System Stands Out

Unmatched Performance

Testing by UBC’s TEAM Laboratory revealed the GRI system increases peak load capacity by 20-40% over traditional glued-in-rods. At shorter embedment lengths (60mm), the results are even more remarkable, with 33% greater withdrawal strength.

Engineered Precision

Designed with circumferential ridges, the GRI system ensures a secure fit, minimizes variability, and simplifies installation. Contractors can complete rod installations in just 3-4 minutes, eliminating the need for custom jigs and significantly improving efficiency.

Enhanced Durability and Safety

Yielding Zone Innovation: A 50mm epoxy-free zone at the rod opening enables predictable, ductile failure modes, improving lateral stress resistance and shear force absorption.

Material Adaptability: The GRI system supports various rod diameters, thread pitches, and embedment depths, making it versatile for diverse mass timber applications.

Key Findings from UBC’s Testing

Withdrawal Strength: Connections with GRI achieved an average withdrawal strength of 502 N/mm, compared to 378 N/mm for traditional systems- a 33% improvement.

Consistency: GRI-enabled specimens demonstrated lower variation, ensuring more predictable and reliable outcomes.

Superior Capacity: For Douglas fir glulam with 120mm embedment, the peak load reached 524 kN, outperforming conventional methods.

Benefits for Engineers and Contractors

Efficiency Gains: Simplified installation reduces labor hours and minimizes on-site complexity.

Structural Confidence: Designed to exceed building code standards, the GRI system ensures robust connections for critical mass timber applications.

Versatility: Perfect for beam-to-column connections, CLT panels, and custom assemblies.
